REIMBURSEMENT - NURSE AIDE TRAINING IN LONG TERM CARE
I. PURPOSE:
All nurse aides employed in long-term care facilities are required to
meet criteria established by the Department of Health, in accordance
with NJAC 8:39-43.1 - 43.20. If training, competency evaluation, and
certification were obtained in other than the employing facility within
12 months of completing the training program, the individual will be
reimbursed on a pro-rated basis providing the following conditions and
policies are met.
II. POLICY:
A. The nurse aide must provide evidence of State Certification,
including skills examination, any duplicate or equivalency certificates
shall be charged to the individual.
B. The Director of Personnel/designee will make inquiry to New Jersey
Aid Registry prior to employment, via contacting (1-800-274-8970).

C. If a nurse aide becomes employed by the facility within 12 months
after completing the nurse aide training and competency evaluation
program, the facility shall provide for the reimbursement of reasonable
costs incurred, Reimbursement will be provided on a pro-rated basis
during the period in which the nurse aide is employed. Such costs
include, but are not limited to, fees for text books or other required
course materials. The burden of proof of all costs remains with the
employee.
D. The nurse aide will provide proof of payment for training and testing
to the Personnel Director/designee.
E. The nurse aide will attest to any payment received from another
facility for reimbursement. Any fraudulent report will result in
immediate removal and reimbursement of funds received inappropriately.
F. The nurse aide will sign a receipt of payment issued by the facility.
G. Reimbursement will be provided for full-time CNA's through the
"Object Account #38-30" at a minimum of $50.00 per month to a maximum of
$700.00 in total, on a pro-rated basis, as long as the nurse aide
remains in the stated title of HSA or HST and has not been reimbursed
from another agency. Any portion of reimbursement from another agency
will be deducted accordingly.
H. The per diem, part-time, nurse aide will also be reimbursed through
the "Object Account #38-30" at a rate of .31 cents per hour, not to
exceed 944 hours annually, to a maximum of $292.64 in total, on a
pro-rated basis as long as the per diem remains with the facility in the
stated title of HSA or HST, and has not been reimbursed from another
agency. Any portion of reimbursement from another agency will be
deducted accordingly. Reimbursement will be calculated and payable on a
quarterly basis.
1. Per Diems who are hired full-time shall be paid the difference to the
maximum of $700.00 at the rate of $50.00 per month.
I. The Nurse Aide must successfully complete the working test period
with a "Satisfactory Rating" as defined in Personnel Policy, "Employee
Code of Conduct," #43-03-002, Item #27, and be in good standing on the
New Jersey Nurse Aide Registry.
