FACILITY ORIENTATION
I. PURPOSE:
To familiarize new employees with their employment responsibilities and
the facility physical environment. The facility will provide a mandate
standard orientation program for all new employees to include:
Organizational structure for the Department of Military and Veterans
Affairs
History of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs
Mission, Goals, Objectives of the Department of Military and Veterans
Affairs
Facility Tour
Employee Benefits
Safety
Policies and Procedures Review
Infection Control Program
Training Opportunities
Performance Assessment Review (PAR)
Residents’ Bill of Rights/Abuse and Neglect
Emergency Procedures
(Each topic shall be presented by the staff member in charge of the
specific area.)
In addition to a standard orientation, the employee will be scheduled to
attend Federal, State, and Department mandated programs in a timely
manner. These shall include the following and any other required
training.
a. Affirmative Action/Prevention of Sexual Harassment
b. Worker Right to Know
c. Drug and Alcohol Abuse Awareness
d. Prevention of Workplace Violence
e. Infection Control
f. Residents’ Bill of Rights
II. FACILITY ORIENTATION PROCEDURE:
A. All new employees are mandated to attend the facility orientation, as
well as a “mini” orientation of the first day of employment.
B. The mini orientation is provided to staff hired prior to the standard
orientation and shall include.
a) Orientation to the facility and service to which the employee is
assigned.
b) A partial tour of the facility.
c) Policies and Procedures of the Department
d) Procedures to be followed in an emergency
e) Infection Control Process (Department Specific)
f) Residents’ Bill of Rights
g) Performance Assessment Review
C. Facility Personnel Office will provide the Training Officer with a
list of names and positions of new hires, in a timely manner.
D. Two weeks prior to orientation, the Facility Training Officer will
forward a notice of the upcoming orientation to the program presenters.
