OFFICE INFORMATION SYSTEMS POLICY

The primary purpose of the Office of Information Systems (OIS) is to support each facility through automation by providing technical services in the development and maintenance of computerized systems for the timely retrieval of accurate information to enable effective planning, operation and monitoring of services rendered.

 

OBJECTIVES

To provide computing and information retrieval capabilities to the facility commensurate with its needs and missions, based on the priorities established by the DMAVA-DVHS management and each facility.

 

To apply information systems technology with the goal of providing improved record keeping and reporting capabilities.

 

To meet the information needs at each facility through the development and implementation of unique systems within specific departments or integrated systems which cross departments at the facility level.

 

In order to insure that policy and objectives of the Office of Information Systems are met and in compliance with the established policies of the Division, the following guidelines will be followed:
 

(1) Information Systems planning and development is coordinated within the Office of Information Systems.
(2) The facility OIS Director approves the purchase of all computer hardware and software.
(3) An inventory of all computer equipment and programs will be maintained.
(4) The facility OIS Director approves and coordinates all computer related training, including the use of all outside consultants.
(5) All facility employees authorized to use computers will do so in compliance with the standards established by OIS for ensuring the appropriate environment and security while maintaining the safety of the hardware, software, and computer operator.
(6) All data in computerized systems is protected through scheduled backup procedures and report monitoring.
