Expired, lost or stolen permits

Expired Permits
GDL permits are valid for two years. All other permits expire 90 days after they are issued. If your permit expires, you must follow the same steps as you would to get a new permit.
Note: Only moped and student learner permits are renewable after the expiration date.

How to renew a student permit after expiration- under 17

• Contact your driving school instructor
• Pay $10 permit fee

Lost or stolen permits- under 17
If you are under 17 years old and have completed your behind the wheel training, you must contact your driving school instructor to replace a special learner’s permit.

Lost or stolen permits- age 17 or older
Visit an MVC Agency that offers Driver Testing Services to replace an examination permit issued to drivers age 17 or older:

• Pass 6 Point ID and address verification
• Pay $3 fee
• If your permit was stolen, remember to report it to the police
