MVC to Relocate Newton Agency to New Facility
"We are making every effort to modernize our facilities statewide to better serve MVC customers. This new agency in Newton is another step in accomplishing this task," Harrington said. "Through careful planning, the MVC has wisely invested in customer service, technology and security for its facilities. This investment allows us to continue down the path of becoming a model of excellence in motor vehicle services."
The Model Agency concept was established following a 2004 comprehensive MVC Siting Study, performed by Standard and Poor’s Corporate Value Consulting. The study analyzed all aspects of MVC facilities, including locations, service times, transit access, population growth trends and transaction volume projections over a five-year period. The Model Agency is what the MVC considers a proper agency setup that provides the necessary means to effectively serve customers, including a minimum of 6,000 square feet of space, with ample counter workstations and improved public areas that allow a customer to be better served without standing in line for extended periods of time.
Located at 51 Sparta Avenue, Newton, Sussex County, the new agency is less than one mile from the former Newton location at 106 Sparta Avenue, which permanently closed on July 12. The new site, at 51 Sparta Avenue, was funded through a capital improvement bond as a part of the 2003 Motor Vehicle Customer Service and Security Act.
The Newton Agency provides approximately 6,500 square feet of business space, and includes 15 customer service counters and three digital driver license camera stations. Customers will also find expanded waiting areas and restrooms, along with plenty of parking.
In addition to customer amenities, the new location provides the MVC with invaluable training space for employees, where essential programs such as document fraud detection and driver history training will be periodically taught.
Newton customers will be assisted by 22 staff members in a pleasant, bright, clean environment. Hours of operation at the Newton Agency are weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with late hours on Thursday evenings until 7:30 p.m., and Saturday hours from 8 a.m. to noon.
Customers should note that the new Newton facility will not offer driver knowledge and eye testing. Customers who require these services can visit the Randolph Agency, located at 1572 Sussex Turnpike in Morris County, or visit www.njmvc.gov for alternate locations.
