MVC PR Efforts Recognized by International Organization
“The MVC has gone from one of the most maligned bureaucracies in America to a respected leader that stands out among its peers,” Gov. Jon S. Corzine said. “I'm proud of their achievements and am pleased to see that their hard work is being recognized.”
Added Harrington: “These AAMVA awards are a testament to the vast number of improvements that the MVC has made over the last several years. As the public face of government, one of our primary goals is to ensure that we are effectively communicating with our customers. It is a great privilege to receive recognition for our efforts.”
Speaking at a recent MVC managers’ meeting, Harrington announced the five PACE awards, which included:
Internal Newsletter/Newspaper – With nearly 3,000 employees, internal communications is an extremely important part of the MVC’s efforts to ensure that all personnel are informed of past and upcoming Commission events, as well any news regarding organizational initiatives, projects and colleague achievements. MVC4U, previously a single-page sheet known as FYI, was completely revamped in 2007, and now features eight pages of content and graphics, including everything from employee features to birth announcements to human resources information.
Billboard - “Be Alert. Watch for Motorcycles.” was the theme of the MVC’s efforts to promote motorcycle safety throughout New Jersey. Unveiled as part of an overall public awareness campaign in 2007, the billboard was seen by motorists traveling on major highways throughout the state. The goal of the billboard design was to remind the motoring public to be aware of motorcycle riders and safely share the road.
Externally-Produced Web Site – Also part of the MVC’s motorcycle safety awareness campaign, a motorcycle-specific Web site, www.njridesafe.org, was launched to bring greater awareness to the New Jersey Motorcycle Safety Education Program, which offers Basic and Experienced Rider Courses to both new and veteran motorcyclists. The site also provides riders with safety tips, along with licensing and registration details.
Poster – Designed to help bring attention to the MVC’s zero-tolerance policy for document fraud, the Fraudulent Documents poster was unveiled at a security-related event that highlighted New Jersey’s new, security-enhanced temporary registration tag and vehicle title. The poster acts as a constant reminder to customers that those attempting to use fraudulent documents at MVC agencies will be arrested and prosecuted.
Private/Public Partnership – The summer of 2007 saw the launch of credit card acceptance at MVC agencies statewide. Partnering with American Express, the MVC organized a public awareness campaign to inform customers that credit card payment through Visa, MasterCard or an American Express Card was an option for agency transactions. The public awareness campaign included a kickoff press conference, as well as credit card advertisements on movie theater screens and Shadow Traffic reports.
The AAMVA PACE awards are proof of the success the MVC has accomplished since replacing the Department of Motor Vehicles in 2003. They demonstrate the organization’s ongoing commitment to better customer service and communication. Previously, the MVC was recognized with PACE awards in 2005 and 2006.In only five years, the MVC can point to a number of advances in the areas of security, service and safety. From the increased security of its licensing process and reduced agency wait times to informative publications such as Safe Driving: A Parent’s Guide to Teaching Teens and the print and online versions of the New Jersey Driver Manual, MVC customers have seen tremendous change throughout the organization. These efforts have placed the MVC well on track to become the model for excellence in motor vehicle services.
