MVC Continues Critical Investment in Infrastructure
Joined by state and local officials, Sheekey touted the MVC’s ongoing efforts to bring even greater efficiency and effectiveness to its delivery of motor vehicle services. Unveiling the modernized design of the new, soon-to-be South Brunswick facility, Sheekey emphasized the importance of planning for the future and ensuring an adaptable and flexible service organization. He also noted the one-stop-shopping benefit of building the facility next to an existing inspection station on state-owned land.
“South Brunswick will be the latest in a long line of service improvements we have made for our customers,” said Sheekey. “Carefully planning and investing in infrastructure demonstrates to the taxpayers that the MVC is a wise steward of limited public dollars. As the public face of government, investments such as this allow our customers to measure the value of their tax dollar.”
The new, much larger South Brunswick Agency, which will be built adjacent to the South Brunswick Inspection Station at 2236 Route 130 North, Dayton, NJ 08810, will replace the existing East Brunswick Agency located on Route 18. STV Incorporated of Newark, New Jersey serves as the project architect while Jeral Construction of Bloomfield, New Jersey will oversee construction of the facility, which is expected to take approximately one year to complete.
Funding for the South Brunswick Agency and other MVC renovation and construction projects was established through a bond included in the Motor Vehicle Security & Customer Service Act in 2003. These monies continue to be used to enhance existing facilities and build new Model Agencies to better serve New Jersey residents.
“When the Fix DMV Commission began the overhaul of motor vehicle services in New Jersey many years ago, the group recognized the importance of investing in both physical and technological infrastructure,” added Sheekey. “Through a commitment to service, security and safety, the MVC has focused its resources on these types of investments and advanced those projects and initiative that aid in the deliver of core motor vehicle services.”
The Model Agency concept was established following a 2004 comprehensive MVC Siting Study performed by Standard and Poor’s Corporate Value Consulting. The study analyzed all aspects of MVC facilities, including locations, service times, access to mass transit, population growth trends and transaction volume projections over a five-year period. In the development of a strategic plan for facilities and services, the MVC developed the Model Agency, which is the ideal physical operational layout for both employees and customers.
The new South Brunswick site, as well as the recently opened Freehold Agency and soon-to-open Flemington Agency, expands on the Model Agency concept with a prototype design that offers an opportunity for even greater efficiency, the ability to expand services and insure flexibility for the future. The new design even provides environmentally friendly aspects such as sensor controlled light and water fixtures, floors made from recycled materials and more natural light features to reduce energy costs.
