Sheekey Extends Renewal for Active Duty Military Personnel

(TRENTON) – New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) Acting Chief Administrator Shawn B. Sheekey signed Administrative Order 2009-02 on August 7, 2009. This Administrative Order renews last year’s order granting all New Jerseyans who are eligible, active duty military personnel, including members of the National Guard and Military Reserves, automatic extensions of their valid driver license, registration and inspection expiration dates.

Each year, the Chief Administrator signs an Administrative Order, which grants extensions for motor vehicle documents to New Jersey military personnel during active service (including Operations Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom) or Operation Iraqi Freedom. License, registration and inspection documents will remain valid until two weeks after demobilization.

The law enforcement community is aware of the extension however, military personnel must carry a copy of the letter signed by Acting Chief Administrator Sheekey, which can be found on www.njmvc.gov, along with their active duty military credentials when operating a motor vehicle.

“As the men and women of the military continue to protect our country, it is our goal to support them in every way possible,” said Sheekey. “This extension is one simple way to demonstrate that support and ease the burden on our active duty military personnel and their families.”
