Morris County Now Home to Modernized MVC Facility
Martinez highlights wise investment in future of motor vehicle services
(RANDOLPH) – Touting another wise investment for the future, New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) Chief Administrator Raymond P. Martinez today officially marked the opening of the new Randolph Motor Vehicle Agency. The agency, which is the first modernized facility built on state-owned land in Morris County, reaffirms the MVC’s commitment to improved customer service, providing the residents of Randolph and the surrounding area with a more operationally-efficient location to serve their motor vehicle needs.
“Nearly a decade after the Motor Vehicle Commission first made a commitment to improved service and enhanced security, we take another positive step forward with the opening of Morris County’s first modernized agency,” said Martinez. “Investments such as this have not only allowed the MVC to become much more effective in the delivery of its core services, but also more flexible in how it addresses the ever changing needs of customers.”
The new agency, located adjacent to the Randolph Inspection Station and Driver Testing Center at 160 Canfield Avenue, is the fourth agency of its kind built in New Jersey. It replaces two outdated, leased facilities in Morristown and Randolph, which permanently closed on August 12. The new location offers the convenience of one-stop-shopping for agency, inspection and driver testing services.
Featuring 9,200 square feet of customer and employee space, the Randolph Agency has 15 service windows, five photo stations, 11 driver testing stations and expanded customer waiting areas and parking. The site also includes training rooms that provide the flexibility for regionalized employee training and a location for driver improvement classes.
In addition to the operational benefits provided by the facility’s modern design, the building also boasts a number of green components aimed at reducing energy costs for the state, such as recycled rubber flooring, a window wall and skylight for more natural light, white roofing to reflect heat and automatic sensors on light and bathroom fixtures.
The design of the new facility was created by architects from STV Incorporated and built by Gingerelli Brothers Construction Company of Toms River. The STV design was first used at the MVC’s Freehold Agency, which opened in January 2009. Other sites featuring the modernized agency design are the Flemington and South Brunswick Agencies, which opened in July 2009 and April 2010, respectively and those under construction in Rahway and Lodi. All new agencies are located next to an inspection station on state-owned land.
Funding for renovations and construction of a number of MVC facilities was established through a bond included in the Motor Vehicle Security & Customer Service Act of 2003. The funding was dedicated at the recommendation of the Fix DMV Commission when it noted the lack of investment in and neglect of the primary outlet for motor vehicle services. The funding continues to be used to enhance existing facilities and construct new facilities to better serve New Jersey residents.
“Whether by phone, mail, in-person or online, it is critically important that the more than 25 million customer contacts we have each year are positive experiences that demonstrate our focus on excellent customer service,” added Martinez. “With each positive reform implemented we build on the vision of the Fix DMV Commission and improve our motor vehicle services.”
In addition to modernized facilities, the MVC has a variety of other projects and initiatives centered on improving its ability to provide the core services of driver licensing and vehicle titling, registration and inspection. The MVC is presently in the midst of overhauling its core computer system, which is slated for completion in 2012, as well as its driver testing system, which will go live in late 2010. Work is also underway to roll out the next generation of Digital Driver License (DDL), which will bring even greater security and utilize enhanced technology to prevent fraud and abuse.
