How to renew a registration
In New Jersey, most vehicles must apply for an annual registration renewal. To simplify the process, MVC sends you an annual registration renewal notice. This letter includes a PIN that you can use to renew online or by phone:

• On the Web (Note: a credit card convenience fee will be applied in order to process each online transaction)
  
• By phone at 877-DMV-NJ4U (877-368-6548, credit card convenience fee applies)
• To renew by mail, use the envelope provided or mail directly to:

• When renewing in-person at an MVC agency, make sure to bring your insurance card and license plate number

Vehicles eligible for renewal by Web or by phone include passenger vehicles, pleasure boats, trailers under 55,000 lbs and motorcycles. All others must renew at an MVC agency.

Elimination of vehicle registration decals
MVC no longer issues registration decals that adhere to the upper right-hand corner of license plates on passenger vehicles, motorcycles, commercial vehicles and personal and commercial trailers. Customers may remove the decals from their license plates, as long as the license plate is not damaged. Download a copy of the Motor Vehicle Advisory [pdf], issued July 27, 2010.

Renewal fee payment options
For your convenience, MVC agencies accept American Express® card, Visa® card, MasterCard® card, checks, money orders and cash.
