The Motor Vehicle Commission has proposed amendments to its regulations  pertaining to motor vehicle and motorcycle inspection standards and test procedures to be used by official inspection facilities and licensed private inspection facilities.  The proposed amendments reclassify various minor safety equipment defects that are presently cause for motor vehicles and motorcycles to fail inspection.  The proposed amendments provide that such minor safety equipment defects will no longer be cause for inspection failure requiring reinspection at official inspection facilities or licensed private inspection facilities.  However, motorists will be advised to have the minor safety equipment defects corrected.

In accordance with paragraph 12 of Executive Order No. 17 (2006), the public comment deadlines for notices of proposal published in the June 19, 2006 issue of the New Jersey Register (in which this proposal was published) have been extended by seven calendar days.  Accordingly, the public has until August 25, 2006 to submit comments to the Motor Vehicle Commission with regard to this proposal.  Comments should be directed to: Steven E.
