Proposed Readoption of Motorized Bicycle Rules with Amendments

The Motor Vehicle Commission has proposed to readopt with amendments its regulations pertaining to motorized bicycles. The rules that are the subject of this proposed readoption with amendments implement the Motor Vehicle and Traffic Laws pertaining to the operation of motorized bicycles (which are also known as “mopeds”). Many of the rules foster highway safety by limiting motorized bicycle license issuance to those who demonstrate an ability to operate motorized bicycles safely.

The Motor Vehicle Commission’s regulatory proposal was published in the April 18, 2005 issue of the New Jersey Register. Copies of the regulatory proposal may be obtained by mail or in person from the Motor Vehicle Commission, 225 East State Street, 9th Floor – East Wing, P.O. Box 162, Trenton, New Jersey 08666-0162; or by telephone at (609) 777-1407.

The public has until June 17, 2005 to submit comments with regard to the Motor Vehicle Commission’s regulatory proposal. Comments should be directed to: Steven E. Robertson, Director, Legal and Regulatory Affairs, Motor Vehicle Commission, 225 East State Street, P.O. Box 162, Trenton, New Jersey 08666-0162.
