• Take and successfully pass the GED by (1) earning the minimum passing score on each of the tests; and, (2) earning a total score of 225.
  
  
• Take and perform at a proficient or advanced proficient level of achievement in all sections of the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) starting in the 2002-2003 academic year, and present official college transcripts. These transcripts must show at least 30 general education credits leading to a degree at an accredited institution of higher education. Included in the 30 general education credits must be a minimum of 15 credits with at least three credits in each of the five general education categories as follows:
  
  1. Communications
  2. Mathematics
  3. Science
  4. Social Science
  5. Humanities

• Transfer out-of-state GED scores to New Jersey. If you took the GED tests outside of New Jersey or while in military service, you may apply to New Jersey for acceptance of your GED scores to qualify for a New Jersey state-endorsed high school diploma. New Jersey passing score requirements will apply. You must meet the New Jersey eligibility requirements.

To request acceptance of out-of-state scores:

1. Arrange for your official transcript to be forwarded directly to the New Jersey GED Testing Program, Bureau of Adult Education, New Jersey Department of Education, PO Box 500, Trenton, New Jersey 08625, from one of the following:

• the Department of Education in the State (other than New Jersey) where you tested; the DANTES Transcript Service (609-720-6740) for military records and/or
• the GED Testing Service (GEDTS) (202-293-9490; website: www.acenet.edu)

Transcripts are not accepted directly from individuals at any time.

2. Complete, sign, and return the request form. (Appendix A)

3. Enclose a copy of your social security card.

4. Enclose a fifteen-dollar ($15.00) money order, payable to the Commissioner of Education.

Beginning January 1, 2002, only out-of-state scores from the 2002 edition of the GED Tests will be accepted.

• To qualify for a local district diploma, attend an adult high school and graduate. Adult high schools offer adults the opportunity to obtain a high school diploma. Adult high schools are schools offering supervised instruction in the day or evening to allow adults to complete the requirements for a locally issued state-endorsed diploma. Students are held accountable for the Statewide assessment in effect at the time they meet all other graduation requirements.

  Courses are varied to meet the educational needs of adults. For each student in an adult high school program, an educational plan is developed reflecting:

1. past academic record;

2. an analysis of past experiences for which credit may be awarded;

3. graduation requirements; and

4. a proposed schedule of courses leading to completion of the requirements for graduation.
