The Division is responsible for enhancing public health services and activities provided by New Jersey's local health departments through licensing, continuing education and training of public health officials; consultative services and technical assistance; assessing the performance of local health departments to ensure the provisions of quality health services and programs in accordance with State Public Health Practice Standards; providing Public Health Priority Funding to eligible local health agencies; and assisting in the development of a statewide electronic information system to improve communications and share public health data and information.

New Jersey's local health departments provide public health services that protect and promote the health of the state's residents.

Contact the local health department responsible for your community to learn more about services and hours of operation.  Available services include:
  • immunizations for children and adults
  • preventive health care for babies and pre-school children
  • screening for a variety of adult diseases
  • tuberculosis and sexually transmitted disease control
  • information and educational programs promoting a healthy lifestyle
  • information about communicable diseases
  • inspections of potential public health nuisances and environmental health hazards
  • rabies vaccination for pets
  • investigation of animal bites
