How to Apply

To apply, contact an automobile insurance broker directly for a personal automobile insurance plan (PAIP). The Department of Banking and Insurance maintains a listing of all PAIP producers by county, with address and phone numbers. Or you can call 1-800-652-2471.

 
Program Description
The Dollar-a-Day policy is a program that helps make automobile insurance available to drivers who are likely to go uninsured because of limited financial resources.

The Department of Banking and Insurance does not issue the automobile insurance but provides information on how to obtain the Dollar-a-Day coverage.

The Dollar-a-Day automobile insurance policy can be obtained at most insurance agencies.The policy covers emergency treatment immediately following an accident and treatment of serious brain and spinal cord injuries up to $250,000.

The policy will not cover outpatient treatment covered by Medicaid, damage caused to other people or property, or damages to one's own car.

 
Fees
None to apply. The insurance policy, if obtained, costs $365 per year.

General Requirements:
Applicant must be currently uninsured
 
Income Requirements:
Applicant must be enrolled in Medicaid with Hospitalization
The applicant is eligible if the Card Run Identifier on the upper left of the Medicaid ID card has an asterisk "*" after the code and "SAIP" is printed on the lower right of the card.
