Program Description
Senior Gold helps eligible seniors and disabled people pay for their prescription drugs, insulin, needles and syringes, as well as needles for injectable medicines used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Senior Gold helps those who do not qualify for either Medicaid or the Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled program. Seniors receive medications at significantly reduced rates. Senior Gold beneficiaries are required to enroll in a Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan. They are responsible for paying the monthly premium directly to the Medicare Part D plan. They are also responsible for paying any late enrollment penalty imposed by Medicare for each month they were eligible to enroll in Medicare Part D but did not enroll.
 
Fees
Prescription co-pay of $15 + 50% of the remaining cost of drug.
When reach $2,000 for a single person or $3,000 for a couple, co-pay is just $15 for remainder of eligibility segment.
 

Eligibility

General Requirements:
Aged (65 years and older) or Disabled (over age 18 to 64 and receiving Social Security Disability)
New Jersey Resident
Must reapply annually
 
Income Requirements:
Single income between $24,432 and $34,432 in 2009.
Married income between $29,956 and $39,956 in 2009.

Further Information
The Office of Support Services for the Aged administers the Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD) program, Senior Gold, the Lifeline Utility Assistance programs, and the Hearing Aid Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (HAAAD) program. The office also determines financial eligibility for the AIDS Drug Distribution Program (ADDP) and the Special Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB) program.
