Program Description
WIC is a public health nutrition program designed to improve health outcomes and influence lifetime nutrition and health behaviors in a targeted, at-risk population. Nutrition education is the cornerstone of the WIC Program.  WIC serves low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, and infants and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk.

Eligible WIC participants receive:
  • Nutrition education (individual counseling and group classes). 
  • Breastfeeding promotion and support.
  • Monthly vouchers for WIC authorized nutritious foods.
  • Four $5 checks to purchase fresh local fruits, vegetables and fresh cut herbs from certified farmers from June to November 30.
  • Information and referrals to other health programs such as immunization and social service programs.

Eligibility

General Requirements:

Applicant must meet four criteria to be eligible for WIC

  • Live in New Jersey
  • Be a pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum woman, an infant or child under 5 years old.
  • Household income less than 185% of poverty guidelines.
  • Have a nutritional need or risk.
