Kurt W. Alstede is a lifelong resident of the Highlands and the Founder and General Manager of Alstede Farms LLC in Chester, NJ. Alstede Farms is a family owned farm and is widely recognized as one of New Jersey’s premier farm operations and destinations, offering a Farm Store, pick-your-own, tailgate markets, Community Supported Agriculture and agritourism attractions. Mr. Alstede served on the transition teams of governors Chris Christie and Christie Whitman, and has served two federal administrations as a New Jersey State Committee Member of the USDA Farm Service Agency. Most recently he serves as a Director for Farm Credit East, ACA.

Mr. Alstede served six years as a Councilman in Chester Township. He is a member and past Director of the New Jersey Farm Bureau, a member and past President of the Morris County Board of Agriculture, is current President of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester, a Trustee of the First Congregational Church of Chester, and a past President, Director and Life Member of the Chester Volunteer Fire Co. #1.

Mr. Alstede is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Delaware Valley University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Horticulture, with minor studies in Agronomy and Agribusiness. He is a featured speaker at regional and national farm and commodity conferences on a variety of agricultural topics. Mr. Alstede is also an Eagle Scout.
