Abstract:

This is a derivative dataset that represents a simple extraction of the wells mapped by NJGS that are within the New Jersey Highlands Region. Please refer to NJGS and NJDEP for data inquires and methodology.
A Public Non-Community Water Supply well is a public water supply well used by individuals other than year-round residents for at least sixty days of the year. A Public Non-Community Water Supply well can be either transient or nontransient. A nontransient non-community water supply well serves at least twenty-five of the same people over a period of six months during the year, such as schools, factories, and office buildings. A transient non-community water supply well is a well that serves year-round for at least sixty days of the year, but does not serve the same individuals during that time period. Transient non-community water supply wells include rest stop areas, restaurants, and motels.
The Public Non-Community Water Supply wells (PNCWS) locations shapefile includes the shapefile along with the associated database file and metadata. The NJDEP Bureau of Safe Drinking Water and New Jersey Geological Survey have cataloged and field located, using the Global Positioning System (GPS), the PNCWS wells as part of the Source Water Area delineation process.

Purpose:

To locate all Public Non-Community Water Supply wells in New Jersey.

II. Terms of Agreement
1.Digital data received from the NJDEP are to be used solely for internal purposes in the conduct of daily affairs.
2.The data are provided, as is, without warranty of any kind and the user is responsible for understanding the accuracy limitations of all digital data layers provided herein, as documented in the accompanying cross-reference files (see Section 1.14 CROSS-REFERENCE). Any reproduction or manipulation of the above data must ensure that the coordinate reference system remains intact.
3. Digital data received from the NJDEP may not be reproduced or redistributed for use by anyone without first obtaining written permission from the NJDEP. This clause is not intended to restrict distribution of printed mapped information produced from the digital data.
4. Any maps, publications, reports, or other documents produced as a result of this project that utilize NJDEP digital data will credit the NJDEP's Geographic Information System (GIS) as the source of the data with the following credit/disclaimer:
"This (map/publication/report) was developed using New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Geographic Information System digital data, but this secondary product has not been verified by NJDEP and is not state-authorized."
5. Users shall require any independent contractor, hired to undertake work that will utilize digital data obtained from the NJDEP, to agree not to use, reproduce, or redistribute NJDEP GIS data for any purpose other than the specified contractual work.
All copies of NJDEP GIS data utilized by an independent contractor will be required to be returned to the original user at the close of such contractual work. Users hereby agree to abide by the use and reproduction conditions specified above and agree to hold any independent contractor to the same terms. By using data provided herein, the user acknowledges that terms and conditions have been read and that the user is bound by these criteria.

Data_Set_Credit:

The NJDEP Bureau of Safe Drinking Water was responsible for collecting and surveying by Global Positioning System (GPS) the majority of well locations used in this data set. The New Jersey Geological Survey was responsible for locating wells by GPS in parts of Burlington, Warren and Essex Counties. Please contact the Bureau of Safe Drinking Water with any questions regarding data collection for this data set.

All wells were located using GPS with differential correction. Spatial accuracy of these wells were determined to have a maximum error of about 40 feet in any direction as determined by the NJGS from comparative field studies involving traditional surveying methods.

Completeness_Report:

The wells included in the data set are subject to change. At the time of publication all available locations and information provided to the New Jersey Geological Survey about public non-community water supply wells has been processed. There are some operational public non-community water supply wells in New Jersey which are not available in this data set. They will be included as updates to this dataset when the information is processed. Please check the NJGS website periodically for information on the updates.
