Long-Term Recovery Groups Aim To Fill Unmet Sandy Needs
Community Partnerships Organize to Bring Their Skills, Knowledge and Expertise to
Individual Long-Term Recovery Challenges
WEST TRENTON N.J. – Sandy survivors with limited options and remaining unmet needs may find assistance through one of the fifteen Long-Term Recovery Groups (LTRG’s) which have been established throughout New Jersey.
Long-Term Recovery Groups provide assistance or resources after a disaster survivor has reached the limits allowed under government-based disaster recovery programs. The LTRG’s consist of representatives from private non-profit agencies, local businesses, faith-based groups, and government agencies who are vested in the community’s healing and regaining a sense of normalcy.
“The NJ Office of Emergency Management supports the work of LTRG’s,” said Colonel Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the NJ State Police and State Director of the NJ Office of Emergency Management. We are grateful to the member organizations who have organized to lend various types of expertise and capacity to disaster survivors such as rebuilding or clean-up assistance, replacing appliances or furniture, and counseling. They are a critical part of the long-term recovery process.”
Long-Term Recovery Groups offer casework management for disaster survivors, provide construction management expertise, assist with volunteer or donations management, conduct counseling or spiritual care, and offer other types of help in removing barriers to long-term recovery. The LTRG’s are committed to maintaining fiscal controls, reporting on the funds they receive and how they are spent, and communicating with the disaster survivors about services and resources available. New Jersey LTRG’s have received funding from philanthropic organizations such as the Robin Hood Foundation, the American Red Cross, the United Way, the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, World Renew, the Community Action Partnership and various types of assistance from private and non-profit sector organizations.
