State Police Increase Patrols Statewide For Holiday Weekend

West Trenton, N.J. – The New Jersey State Police will increase roving patrols this holiday weekend with well over 100 additional troopers statewide.

The holiday program will run from Friday, July 4 to Sunday, July 6 with troopers looking for people not wearing their seatbelts, cell phone usage, aggressive driving, speeding, and DWI.

Additionally, troopers assigned to the detail, as well as the normally scheduled patrols, will be looking for signs of fatigued driving.  People who drive fatigued exhibit signs that are similar to those who drive impaired.

This holiday weekend has many people traveling long distances to vacation or visit friends and family.  If you plan on drinking an alcoholic beverage, make sure you have a designated driver.  If you are traveling long distances, make sure you take a break from driving or take turns driving with a passenger.

“This program is designed to reduce crashes and crash-related fatalities,” said Lt. Colonel Edward Cetnar, Deputy Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police.  “We want everyone to get to and from their destination safely and to enjoy the holiday weekend with their friends and families.”
