  A Step-by-Step Guide  
  1. Determine all the possible players in your county. For example:

    • Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (American Red Cross, The Salvation Army)
    • Emergency Management Officers
    • Government Social Service Agencies
    • Faith Based Groups (Churches, Temples, Mosques)
    • Community Groups (Lions, Kiwanis, Rotary)
    • Fraternal Organizations (Masons)
    • Businesses that have volunteer programs
    • Unions
    • Chambers of Commerce
    • Any organization/group/entity that can provide service or fill a need after a disaster
  2.  

  3. Form an organizing committee to bring everyone together for a meeting.

     

  4. List the needs that a disaster can cause and match them up with the organizations/agencies in your county.

     

  5. Choose leadership.

     

  6. Schedule and hold regular meetings.

     

  7. Affiliate with the NJVOAD.

     

  8. Cooperate, Coordinate, Communicate, Collaborate.

     

  9. Meet the needs of disaster victims in traditional and non-traditional ways.
