Board licensees have long adhered to a tradition of care. A licensee of this Board may not categorically refuse to treat a patient who has been diagnosed with Ebola, or who has not been diagnosed with Ebola but who is symptomatic of the disease, when the licensee possesses the skill and experience to treat the condition presented, and when the licensee has been appropriately trained in the proper care of such patients, and having been provided with, and trained in the use of, personal protective equipment ("PPE"). The Board, however, recognizes that certain health care workers with certain physical conditions may be unduly susceptible to the virus and should refrain from direct care of such patients. The Board will consider each case on an individual basis giving due consideration to any such extenuating circumstances. Even where such extenuating circumstances exist, however, the licensee retains the responsibility to make alternate arrangements for the proper care of the patient.

To learn more about appropriate training and equipment please go to the NJDOH Ebola/Viral Hemorrhagic Fever Information Page.

New Jersey's Medical Board is responsible for protecting the public's health and safety by determining qualifications of applicants for licensure, establishing standards for practice, and disciplining licensees who do not adhere to those requirements. In addition to physicians and podiatrists, the Board licenses and certifies certain other health care professionals.

On this site you will find important information for consumers, licensees, applicants, hospitals, managed care entities and other institutions. The horizontal navigation bar at the top of the page permits you to move around the site easily and without having to use the back button on your Web Browser. You can learn more about the Medical Board and its activities, read summaries of Board actions, search for licensees by name or profession, get answers to frequently asked questions and more.

  • Consumers can search for a physician or learn more about their current doctor by clicking onto the New Jersey Health Care Profile link. They may file a complaint, if necessary, about a physician or podiatrist or contact a member of the Medical Board's staff to check on the status of a complaint filed previously.
  • Doctors and those in the process of becoming doctors can access online applications and renewal forms and learn more about our programs, their responsibilities, and the related activities of other agencies and organizations.
  • Hospitals, managed care entities and other institutions can find access to verification services.

To keep the public informed of the Board's activities, this site will be updated regularly and will post agendas, minutes, rule proposals, and licensee status.

Our goal is to ensure that the public and our licensees have access to services and information vital to the continued delivery of health care in New Jersey. We encourage you to use the site often, and we welcome your feedback.
