I. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
1. Credentials:
Dental:
- Dr. Alan Stern - Application for reinstatement of his New Jersey license which expired
on 10-31-2007. The committee discussed a Consent Order filed by the New York
Board of Dentistry in 1984 which included a Censure a Reprimand and placed on probation for six months. The New York license is currently active. The committee recommends approval of his reinstatement application.
- Dr. Christopher Marsh - Application for a New Jersey dental license. Dr. Marsh
provided a letter explaining an incident which occurred when he was an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery resident. The committee requested that Dr. Marsh provide the
name of the individual that provided the letter concerning the incident. Dr. Marsh must
also take the Law and Jurisprudence exam.
- Dr. David Faust - Application for a New Jersey dental license. Dr. Faust indicated that
there was a malpractice case but failed to provide details. The committee recommends
that Dr. Faust provide an explanation concerning this matter.
Dental Auxiliaries:
- Rachel Brewer - Application for a dental hygiene license by credentials. Ms. Brewer
took the WREB exam. The committee recommends denial of licensure and indicates that it will be reconsidered after she completes the NERB exam and take the Law
and Jurisprudence exam.
- Carrie Parkin - The committee discussed her request to reinstate her dental hygiene
license which expired twenty years ago. The committee recommends that she take
a refresher course and the NERB exam.
- Dawn Loper, RDA - Application for a Registered Dental Assistant license. This
application was previously reviewed and tabled pending outcome of pending charges.
The Board has recently received a report of another incident. The committee
recommends this application be tabled pending disposition of the arrests.
2. Continuing Education:
The committee reviewed 15 applications for pre-approval of continuing education courses. The committee recommends approval of 12 applications and three courses
require further review.
- Suzanne Gilman, DDS - Request for approval to sponsor an Expanded Functions
course for Dental Assistants. The committee recommends that this request be denied
because she does not meet the requirements. A copy of the Board?s statutes and regulations will be sent to her (NJAC 13:30-2.2 a&b and NJSA 45:6-50(g).
In a motion by Ms. Delaney, seconded by Dr. Placa, the Board approved the committee?s
recommendations.
II. OTHER MATTERS:
1. Discussion concerning the presentation made by Dr. Neal A. Demby & Dr. Susan L. Dietrich before the Board on February 6, 2008 concerning the Lutheran Medical Center dental resident placement in New Jersey to treat under served populations. The Board
requested that the following information be obtained:
- How do the residents obtain the 70 hours of general anesthesia in the operating room?
- How do they obtain the medicine and pediatric rotations?
2. The Board discussed the Enteral Sedation regulation and renewal of the permits.
The Board indicated that the regulation does not have an expiration date. The Board
determined that the renewal dates coincide with the general dental license
which is renewable on October 31, 2009. A notice will be sent to all Enteral Sedation
permit holders.
