Enforcement Bureau Investigation Leads
To Arrest at Jersey City Spa
NEWARK – An employee at a Jersey City spa has been arrested and charged with practicing medicine without a license after investigators from Consumer Affairs’ Enforcement Bureau confirmed patrons there were being injected with an unknown substance.
Neyda Morales was arrested by Jersey City Police Department officers following an investigation conducted by Enforcement Bureau investigators and police officers assigned to the Jersey City Mayor’s Quality of Life Task Force. The investigation resulted from a consumer complaint filed in June about injections being given to customers at the Sunshine Splash Tan shop at 408 Central Avenue.
"Cosmetic surgery, which includes injections, must be performed by licensed physicians," Consumer Affairs Director David Szuchman said. "Our concern is safeguarding the public’s health and ensuring medical procedures are properly performed by qualified professionals."
Consumer Affairs regulates and oversees approximately 500,000 professionals working in more than 80 occupations, including physicians, nurses, dentists, chiropractors and optometrists.
Consumers who believe professional standards of conduct or state regulations are being violated may file a complaint with the Division of Consumer Affairs. Complaint forms are available online at http://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov. Complaints also may be filed by calling 800-242-5846 (within N.J.) or 973-504-6200.
