Conference Notice
Please take notice that the Attorney General/Board of Medical Examiners Advisory Committee on Physician Compensation is seeking public comment from interested parties concerning all forms of direct and indirect compensation to physicians from the pharmaceutical and medical device industries that may cause or be perceived to cause conflicts of interest or undue influence in medical practice.
An informal conference will take place on Friday, November 16, 2007 beginning at 10:00 AM at the offices of the Division of Consumer Affairs in the Morris Room, Sixth floor, 124 Halsey Street, Newark N.J. Interested parties should address the spectrum of types of compensation and services of value, including gifts, meals, provision of sample medication, sponsorship of educational conferences and training, support of clinical research, consultancies and charitable foundations. The Committee is also seeking suggestions for dealing with the issues raised and analyses of the ramifications of suggested solutions.
Speakers may present oral comments limited to 10 minutes. Interested parties intending to speak are asked to register in advance and provide a summary of comments to be presented. Please register with, and submit summaries of comments to, blanksm@dca.lps.state.nj.us or faxed to Dr. Mary Blanks at 609-826-7117. Attendees who have not preregistered or submitted summaries of comments will be given an opportunity to speak only if time permits.
The conference shall be moderated by a moderator selected by the Advisory Committee. A verbatim transcript of the conference will be prepared by a certified shorthand reporter. Interested parties may obtain a copy of the transcript by ordering it directly from the reporter at or after the hearing.
