VETERINARY MEDICAL EXAMINERS A. CALL TO ORDER This scheduled meeting of the Board was called to order at 9:45 a.m. in the Sussex Conference Room, 124 Halsey Street, Newark, New Jersey. B. ROLL CALL The following Board Members were present for this meeting:
Board President Mark Logan, V.M.D. Absent: Daniel P. Keenan, D.V.M. Public present: Mrs. Patricia Scavelli Liaison from the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association. A quorum was present for the entire meeting. The meeting was presided over by Mark Logan, V.M.D. In accordance with Chapter 231 of P.L. 1975, more commonly referred to as the Sunshine Law, adequate notice of this meeting was provided by mailing to the Office of the Secretary of State, the Star Ledger, the Trenton Times, the Bergen Record and the Courier Post and the Atlantic City Press. C. APPROVAL OF PUBLIC MINUTES On a motion of Dr. Adler, and seconded by Mr. Scerni, the December 19, 2007 Public Session Minutes were approved with corrections. All in favor. D. PUBLIC COMMENTS (None) E. LEGISLATIVE/REGULATORY Please provide language regarding DHS/Nancy Halpern’s response F. ADMINISTRATIVE 1. Executive Director Leslie G. Aronson reported that our next State/Jurisprudence examination is scheduled for April 11, 2008 applications for this exam will be accepted up through February 11, 2008 60 days prior the examination. G. CORRESPONDENCE 1. Memo from NBVME regarding revised species specific examination The Board reviewed the memo from the NBVME and accepted it as informational. 2. Memo from AAVSB- The Board reviewed the memo from the AAVSB and accepted it as informational. H. MISCELLANEOUS Discussion of Zoonotic Diseases/Nancy Halpern, D.V.M. Nancy Halpern, D.V.M. is the Government member to the Board. At this meeting she raised an issue/concerns regarding possible future policy of how to report zoonotic diseases. At this writing it appears the Department of Health is considering having only State officials notified of zoonotic diseases. The Board upon review and discussion determined to draft a letter to the Chief Counsel, for the Office of the Governor, to express their concerns regarding the future zoonotic disease notification process and how both State and Local officials should receive notice simultaneously. H. NEXT MEETING The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board is February 28, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. at 124 Halsey Street 6th Floor, Newark, New Jersey. I. EXECUTIVE SESSION The Board unanimously moved to executive session to consider new consumer complaints and new and pending disciplinary matters. J. ADJOURNMENT This meeting of the Board was adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
