The Bias Crime Victim will call an "800"
number for the Bias Crime Victims' support service. The support
service will gather the relevant information, and offer the
victim the opportunity to talk with a trained volunteer. The
organization will also make referrals to the government, medical
and social service agencies, and cultural advocacy groups
if appropriate.
The Bias Crime Victims' support service will
contact one of the trained volunteers, selecting them based
on factors such as their geographic location, experience with
the type of incident that the bias crime victim has suffered,
and the general availability. Information about the victim
will be shared so that the volunteer can best address the
victim's particular needs.
The trained volunteer will call the
bias crime victim, share information and help end the feeling
of isolation that often flows from a bias crime incident.
To make the telephone referral
system a success please volunteer!
