  The Elizabeth Day Program is a Juvenile Justice Commission community-based day program located in Elizabeth, which serves the youth of Union and Hudson Counties. The program can accommodate up to 20 adjudicated probationers between the ages of 13-18. Parolees, who have completed a JJC residential program, may also be assigned to the Elizabeth Day Program in order to prepare them for the transition back into their communities.  
  The Elizabeth Day Program operates between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Students are picked up from and returned to their homes daily. The average length of stay is six to eight months for probationers and one to three months for transitional juveniles.  
  In addition to their core educational curriculum, participants at Elizabeth Day receive counseling, physical education, family-life skills, work readiness skills, computer training, and GED preparation. Students also participate in Aggression Replacement Training (ART), Phoenix gang alternative program and building maintenance projects. As part of the cultural affairs components of the program, participants visit museums, and attend lectures and workshops that provide valuable learning opportunities.  
  The program goals of the Elizabeth Day Program are to provide a safe, secure and structured environment where program participants can learn to modify their behavior and find alternative approaches to manage conflicts, to improve self-esteem and to develop a sense of self-worth. The students are provided with techniques to help modify behaviors that lead to substance abuse and/or criminal activity. The program strives to identify alternative approaches to help students manage the conflicts they face everyday.
