Campus Residential Community Home (RCH) serves up to 39 juvenile males identified with substance abuse and behavioral issues.
The program is designed to promote responsibility, initiative, and the development of healthy coping skills through a cognitively-based, social learning curriculum titled, “New Freedoms”. Campus RCH teaches young people to gradually understand the impact that substance abuse has had on their past behaviors, their current circumstances, and subsequently, the lives of those around them, particularly their families.
Campus Residential Community Home’s vocational curriculum includes a horticulture program with a greenhouse facility utilized for seasonal crops and ornamental harvests. The students cultivate flowers and trees, and then distribute them to the city of Blackwood and to locations in and around Camden County. A building maintenance program includes the study of carpentry, plumbing, electric wiring, painting, dry wall installation, glass repair and floor maintenance. Computer literacy instruction is also offered to assist students with business planning, resume writing, job searches, and the production of the Campus RCH newsletter. Upon the completion of this program, students may advance to Hope Works, a nonprofit educationally-based program located in Camden NJ. Hope Works offers students instruction in state-of-the-art advanced technology in computer applications such as website design, geographic information services (GIS), computer networking and repair, and video production.

Campus RCH offers its residents the opportunity to participate in a Speaker’s Bureau as part of its Restorative Justice initiative. This initiative supports young people as they give back to the communities that they have harmed. Through this program, residents lead discussion groups with area schools, and other interested agencies in the community, sharing their personal stories and the devastating effects that substance abuse has played in their lives.
