The Tort Litigation Section is responsible for defending all personal injury litigation filed against the State of New Jersey, its officials and employees. In addition to the principal departments of the State and numerous agencies and commissions, the section defends NJ Transit, various State colleges and UMDNJ. The section's Worker's Compensation unit provides representation in thousands of workers' compensation claims brought by State employees alleging accidental injury or occupational disease arising out of their employment. With respect to NJ Transit, the section also defends claims brought by NJ Transit's rail employees under the Federal Employee Labor Act.
