Division
of Elections Announces Statewide Evening
Voter Registration Hours
|
|
TRENTON
– Attorney General Peter C. Harvey
and Division of Elections Director Ramon
de la Cruz announced today that a statewide
master schedule of nighttime voter registration
hours for the June 7 Primary Election
is available via the Division’s
Web site at www.njelections.org.
“Through evening registration hours,
New Jerseyans who prefer to register in
person have the scheduling flexibility
they may need to do so,” said Attorney
General Harvey. “Many people, by
virtue of their jobs, child care responsibilities
or any number of other factors, may find
it difficult to visit a voter registration
site during regular business hours.”
Director de la Cruz noted that, “By
statute, every county is required to set,
and provide a schedule for, evening voter
registration hours. As a public service,
we are centralizing this information in
one place -- at the Division of Elections
Web site – to enable those who need
it to access it quickly and conveniently.
We are committed to making the voting
process as user-friendly and inclusive
as possible.”
In order to register, anyone who wishes
to vote must be a United States citizen,
18 years of age by the next election,
and will have resided in the district
for at least 30 days as of the election
date. Those seeking to register must not
be on parole, probation or serving a sentence
for conviction on an indictable offense
under any federal or state laws. Residents
may register to vote either in person,
with their municipal clerk or county Commissioner
of Registration, or by mail. Residents
who choose to register by mail can download
a registration form from the Division
of Elections Web site, and then mail the
hard copy to their local county Commissioner
of Registration. Mail-in registration
forms can also be obtained from a municipal
clerk, county Commissioner of Registration
or the State Division of Elections. Forms
can also be obtained at State Motor Vehicle
Commission agencies, as well as a variety
of other State offices.
