– A total of 4,861,279 New
Jersey residents are registered to vote
after the close of registration for the
November 7, 2006 General Election, Attorney
General Stuart Rabner announced today.
The
new statewide voter registration figures
were tallied following the close of voter
registration on October 17, according to
Division of Elections Deputy Director Maria
Del Valle-Koch. The overall number reflects
registrations submitted to the Division
of Elections, county Superintendents of
Election and county Commissioners of Registration.
Of
those registered, 1,150,184 declared themselves
Democrat, 890,118 declared themselves Republican
and 2,819,398 declared themselves unaffiliated.
In addition, a total of 1,579 New Jerseyans
registered as alternative party voters,
including: 736 Green Party, 543 Libertarian
Party, 141 U.S. Constitution Party, 107
Reform Party and 52 Natural Law Party.
Attorney
General Rabner, the state’s Chief
Election Official, reminded voters that
it is the law in New Jersey that any eligible
voter who chooses to vote by absentee ballot
may do so.
Deputy Director Del Valle-Koch noted that
registered voters who want to obtain an
absentee ballot must do so by 3 p.m. on
Monday, November 6. The deadline for mail-in
applications is Tuesday, October 31. Completed
absentee ballots must be received by the
county Board of Elections by 8 p.m. on Election
Day, November 7.

In addition, the web site features an on-line
feedback form for disabled voters who encounter
accessibility problems at polling places,
contact information for local election officials
in the 21 counties and other useful election-related
information.
