TRENTON
- Attorney General Anne Milgram and Criminal
Justice Director Gregory A. Paw announced
that a Willingboro man was sentenced today
for his role in a motorcycle theft ring
that operated primarily in Mercer and Burlington
counties. The sentence stems from a joint
investigation by the Office of Insurance
Fraud Prosecutor and the New Jersey State
Police which has resulted in 23 arrests.
According
to Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Greta Gooden
Brown, Michael Green, 31, of Willingboro,
was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Thomas
S. Smith Jr. in Burlington County to two
years probation, condition upon him serving
six months in jail.
Green
was sentenced pursuant to his Aug. 6 guilty
plea to third-degree receiving stolen property.
Green admitted that on May 4, 2005, he possessed
a stolen motorcycle, a 2001 Honda CBR 600
F4i, knowing that the motorcycle was stolen.
It is alleged that Green was part of a conspiracy
in which the defendants variously conspired
to steal and fence motorcycles worth more
than $500,000 in and around Burlington County.
The investigation is continuing and further
arrests are anticipated.
State
Police Det. Sgt. Mark Wilhelm, State Investigators
Thomas Tiernen and Christina Fiscella, Analyst
Terri Drumm and Deputy Attorney General
Christine A. Hoffman were assigned to the
investigation. Hoffman represented the state
at the sentencing. Also assisting in the
investigation was Det. Sgt. 1st Class Anthony
Martin.
“Criminals
who conspire to steal vehicles contribute
to high insurance rates for all New Jersey
residents,” said Insurance Fraud Prosecutor
Brown. “ We will continue to vigorously
investigate and prosecute vehicle theft.”
The
Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor
was established by the Automobile Insurance
Cost Reduction Act of 1998. The Office is
