- Attorney General Anne Milgram and Criminal
Justice Director Gregory A. Paw announced
that a Union County man has been sentenced
for conspiring to receive stolen vehicles.
According
to Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Greta Gooden
Brown, Miroslaw Majdecki, 47, of Union,
was ordered by Superior Court Judge Salem
Vincent Ahto in Morris County to serve three
years probation and to pay $24,441 in restitution
to Motor Insurance Corporation. The sentence
was pursuant to Majdecki’s Oct. 9
guilty plea to a criminal accusation charging
him with conspiracy to receive stolen property
and receiving stolen property, both in the
third degree.
At
the guilty plea hearing before Judge Ahto,
Majdecki admitted that between August 2001
and June 2005, he conspired with other persons
to deal in stolen motor vehicles. Majdecki
admitted that he knowingly possessed a stolen
2002 Chevrolet Astro van valued at more
than $27,000. An investigation determined
that Majdecki parked the vehicle in a church
parking lot in Oak Ridge. The van had been
stolen from a Chevrolet dealership in Medford,
N.Y. Majdecki also admitted that he purchased
a stolen 2000 Ford Econoline E350 van knowing
that it had been stolen.
State Investigators Jeffrey Lorman and Jarek
Pyrzanowski, Civil Investigator Gary Miller
and Deputy Attorney General Jacqueline D.
Smith were assigned to the investigation.
Smith represented the Office of Insurance
Fraud Prosecutor at the sentencing hearing.
The
Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor was
established by the Automobile Insurance
Cost Reduction Act of 1998. The office is
the centralized state agency that investigates
and prosecutes both civil and criminal insurance
fraud, as well as Medicaid fraud.
