TRENTON
- Attorney General Anne Milgram and Criminal
Justice Director Gregory A. Paw announced
that a Middlesex County man was sentenced
today for his role in a Social Security
disability insurance fraud.
According
to Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Greta Gooden
Brown, Henri B. Walker, 49, of Perth Amboy,
was sentenced to five years probation by
Superior Court Judge Frederick P. DeVesa
in Middlesex County. He also was ordered
to pay $9,841 in restitution to the Social
Security Administration. Walker was sentenced
pursuant to his Oct. 25 guilty plea to third
degree theft by deception.
In
pleading guilty, Walker admitted that between
Jan. 5 and Aug. 5, 2005, he wrongfully collected
Social Security disability payments by misrepresenting
to the Social Security Administration that
he was totally disabled, unable to work
and unemployed. Walker admitted that during
the same period, he operated an auto detailing
business known as T&W Detailers and
later known as Sparkle Detail. By misrepresenting
his employment status, Walker admitted he
wrongfully collected approximately $9,840
from Social Security.
State
Investigator Michael English and Deputy
Attorney General Michael V. Troso were assigned
to the investigation. Troso represented
the Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor
at the sentencing.
“This
office will continue to vigorously investigate
and prosecute cases of theft from disability
insurance programs, both private plans and
government sponsored plans such as Social
Security,” said Insurance Fraud Prosecutor
Brown.
The
Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor was
established by the Automobile Insurance
Cost Reduction Act of 1998. The office is
the centralized state agency that investigates
and prosecutes both civil and criminal insurance
fraud, as well as Medicaid fraud.
