TRENTON - Attorney General Anne Milgram and Criminal Justice Director Gregory A. Paw announced that an Irvington man has been sentenced to state prison after pleading guilty to insurance fraud.
According to Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Greta Gooden Brown, Keith Ashley, 37, of Irvington, was ordered yesterday by Superior Court Judge Donald J. Volkert, Jr. in Essex County to serve four years in state prison. Ashley pleaded guilty to insurance fraud on Jan. 2.
In pleading guilty, Ashley admitted that he fraudulently used the credit card of another person to pay automobile insurance premiums to Geico Insurance Company.
State Investigator Franco Cignarella and Deputy Attorney General Nicole D. Rizzolo were assigned to the investigation. Rizzolo represented the Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor at the sentencing.
“Use of another’s credit card is a form of identity theft, which is a major law enforcement issue,” said Prosecutor Brown. “This office will continue to investigate and prosecute individuals who obtain health care services or auto insurance using fraudulent identities.”
This case was referred to OIFP by the Special Investigative Unit of the Geico Insurance Company, which initially uncovered the fraud and assisted OIFP in the investigation. Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Brown thanks Geico for their assistance in this matter.
