TRENTON Attorney General Anne Milgram and Criminal Justice Director Deborah L. Gramiccioni announced that a former Burlington County employee pleaded guilty and was sentenced today for temporary disability insurance fraud.
According to Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Greta Gooden Brown, Louis Spadaccino, 38, of Delran, who was formerly employed as a HVAC mechanic by the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders, was ordered by Superior Court Judge Cornelius P. Sullivan in Burlington County serve five years probation and 240 days in county jail and to pay $3,997 in restitution to the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Spadaccino was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to a criminal accusation which charged him with third-degree theft by deception.
At today’s guilty plea hearing, Spadaccino admitted that between Aug. 19, and Nov. 7, 2005, he filed a fraudulent claim for temporary disability insurance benefits with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Spadaccino admitted that the claim falsely represented that he had injured his hand and was unable to work as a HVAC mechanic for Burlington County. Spadaccino admitted that, in fact, he was actually working as an HVAC mechanic repairing air conditioning and refrigeration units for a variety of persons during this period he claimed to be disabled. Spadaccino admitted that, as a result of the fraud, he wrongfully collected $3,997 in temporary disability insurance benefits.
Detective Natalie Brotherston, and Deputy Attorney General Peter W. Lee were assigned to the investigation. Lee represented the Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor at the sentencing. Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Brown thanked the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development for its assistance in this matter.
