TRENTON
- Attorney General Anne Milgram announced
that an Ocean County man was sentenced to
prison today for distributing child pornography
on the Internet.
The
defendant was among more than three dozen
people arrested last year as part of “Operation
Silent Shield,” an investigation that
targeted offenders who distributed known
images and videos of child pornography via
the Internet.
Mario
Granados, 21, of Lakewood, was sentenced
to four years in state prison by Superior
Court Judge Wendel E. Daniels in Ocean County.
Granados was also ordered to register under
Megan’s Law. Granados pleaded guilty
on June 23 to an accusation charging him
with second-degree distribution of child
pornography.
Granados
admitted that on July 26, 2007, he knowingly
used Internet file sharing software to make
multiple videos containing child pornography
readily available for any other user to
download from a designated “shared
folder” on his computer. One of those
videos was downloaded by an undercover detective
from the Internet Crimes Against Children
Task Force of the New Jersey State Police.
On
Oct. 4, 2007, members of the New Jersey
State Police executed a search warrant at
Granados’ home. The search revealed
videos depicting child pornography on Granados’
computer.
The
Digital Technology Investigation Unit of
the New Jersey State Police coordinated
the investigation. Deputy Attorney General
Valerie Noto prosecuted the case for the
Division of Criminal Justice Major Crimes
Bureau.
