Trenton,
NJ – Attorney General Anne Milgram
today announced the appointment of Aaron
M. Davis, a native of Willingboro, NJ, who
has been the Kansas boxing commissioner
for the last four years, as the new Commissioner
of the State Athletic Control Board.
Davis
will succeed Sylvester Cuyler, who has been
the acting commissioner for the last 10
months. Davis’s appointment was confirmed
today at a meeting in Trenton by State Athletic
Control Board members Steven W. Katz and
Dennis McDonough. Davis is scheduled to
start on Oct. 27.
Davis
was selected after a nationwide search.
As Kansas Boxing Commissioner, Davis and
the Kansas Athletic Commission, oversees
boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and martial
arts.
“Aaron’s
management experience and background will
ensure that New Jersey will continue to
vigorously protect the safety of all participants
in boxing, mixed martial arts and other
combat sports, and promote public confidence
and trust in our regulatory process,’’
Attorney General Milgram said. “I
thank the board for confirming my appointment
today.”
Davis, 39, has been the boxing commissioner
in Kansas since 2005, managing the administration
of the licensing process and enforcing rules
and regulations. He has also been chairman
of the Code of Conduct Committee of the
Association of Boxing Commissioners for
the last year. The association seeks uniformity
of health and safety standards pertaining
to professional boxing and other combat
sports across the country.
Before becoming boxing commissioner, Davis
was in sales and marketing at Topeka, Kansas,
radio stations, managed a multi-sport instructional
complex, and was an account executive for
Southwestern Bell Telephone (SBC Communications)
in Topeka.
He
received a Bachelor of Science in the administration
of Justice from Wichita State University
in 1991 and worked as an admissions representative
and the director of minority recruitment
for two years at the university after graduation.
He worked for a community and school organization
and coached junior varsity basketball and
soccer at Wichita West High School for six
years, and was the director of education
at the Topeka Correctional Facility in 1999
and 2000.

and look forward to the new challenge as
New Jersey’s Commissioner of the State
Athletic Control Board,’’ Davis
said.
Davis was raised in Willingboro, where his
parents still reside.
