Trenton, NJ
– Attorney General Anne Milgram today
said Ticketmaster should cease and desist
from steering consumers to TicketsNow.com,
its wholly owned subsidiary, because redirecting
consumers to its website for reselling tickets
may be a violation of the New Jersey Consumer
Fraud Act.
Milgram, in a letter to Ticketmaster
Chief Executive Officer Irving Azoff, said
the steering or self-dealing may constitute
an unconscionable business practice in violation
of the consumer fraud act.
Ticketmaster has been served
with interrogatories by the Attorney General’s
Office and the Division of Consumer Affairs
seeking information concerning the sales practices
of Ticketmaster and TicketsNow.com.
The Division of Consumer Affairs
has received more than 1,000 complaints regarding
Ticketmaster’s handling of sales for
Bruce Springsteen’s scheduled May concerts
at the Izod Center in the Meadowlands.
