TRENTON
– Attorney General Anne Milgram and
Criminal Justice Director Deborah L. Gramiccioni
announced that a Burlington County man was
sentenced to 40 years in state prison today
on drug and weapons charges.
According
to Director Gramiccioni, David Garmon, 24,
of Pemberton Township, was sentenced to 40
years in state prison, including more than
13 years without possibility of parole, by
Superior Court Judge Thomas S. Smith Jr. in
Burlington County. He was sentenced under
a combined plea disposition that included
charges filed by the Division of Criminal
Justice and charges filed by Burlington County
Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi.
Garmon
pleaded guilty on Dec. 16 to drug and weapons
charges filed by the Division of Criminal
Justice Gangs & Organized Crime Bureau
as a result of an investigation into the Sex
Money Murder set of the Bloods street gang.
He pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm
as a convicted felon, possession of a firearm
while committing certain drug offenses, and
possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Garmon
also pleaded guilty on Dec. 16 to drug and
weapons charges filed by the Burlington County
Prosecutor’s Office in connection with
separate investigations.
“This
case is an excellent example of how we are
operating throughout the state, working together
across all levels of law enforcement to target
street gangs and individuals who bring guns
and drugs into our communities,” said
Attorney General Milgram. “This defendant
will be going to prison for a long time.”
Deputy
Attorney General Philip S. Aronow prosecuted
the case for the Division of Criminal Justice
Gangs & Organized Crime Bureau.
The
charges filed by the Division of Criminal
Justice stem from a broader investigation
by the New Jersey State Police Organized Crime
Control Bureau - Street Gangs Central Unit
and the Division of Criminal Justice Gangs
& Organized Crime Bureau into the criminal
activities of the Sex Money Murder set. The
Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office
and the Pemberton Township Police Department
assisted in that investigation in Burlington
County.
As
a result of the investigation, a vehicle in
which Garmon was a passenger was stopped by
detectives on Feb. 27, 2008, and Garmon was
arrested on outstanding warrants. He was found
to be in possession of a .45-caliber semiautomatic
handgun.
Garmon
was convicted of aggravated assault in 2004
in Burlington County and therefore was prohibited
as a felon from possessing a gun.
On
Aug. 8, 2008, members of the Pemberton Township
Police Department, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s
Narcotics Task Force and the State Police
Teams “C” Unit executed search
warrants in the Browns Mills section of Pemberton
Township at a home on Trenton Road and a second
home on Seminole Trail. Garmon was arrested
at the Seminole Trail location in possession
of a small quantity of marijuana and a .22-caliber
handgun with hollow-point bullets.
