TRENTON
- Attorney General Anne Milgram and Criminal
Justice Director Deborah L. Gramiccioni announced
that two Burlington County men were sentenced
today for their roles in a stolen motorcycle
ring.
According
to Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Greta Gooden
Brown, Tyrone Sapp, 31, of Willingboro, was
sentenced today to five years of probation
by Superior Court Judge Thomas S. Smith in
Burlington County. He pleaded guilty on March
16 to theft by unlawful taking.
Wilson
Lopez, 26, of Burlington, pleaded guilty on
Jan. 20 to conspiracy and was sentenced today
to four years of probation by Judge Smith.
The judge ordered that each man serve 364
days in the county jail if he violates his
probation.
A
third defendant, Angel Carrion III, 28, pleaded
guilty on March 16 to receiving stolen property.
He was admitted today into the Pre-trial Intervention
Program. Judge Smith ordered the three defendants
to pay $7,100 in restitution.
In
pleading guilty, the defendants admitted that
on Dec. 13, 2003, they conspired to steal
a 2001 Honda CBR 900RR motorcycle. The three
men were indicted on Nov. 20, 2008 by a Burlington
County grand jury.
The
indictment resulted from an investigation
by the New Jersey State Police and the Office
of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor into a ring
of persons who were stealing motorcycles,
retagging them with new vehicle identification
numbers, and selling them. In some instances,
they were submitting phony insurance claims
representing they had been stolen from their
owners when, in fact, they had been voluntarily
given up by their owners.
The
investigation was led by Detective Sgt. Mark
Wilhelm of the New Jersey State Police. Deputy
Attorney General Paul D. Santangini represented
the Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor at
the sentencing.
