Justice Director Deborah L. Gramiccioni announced
that an Essex County man was indicted on charges
that he distributed child pornography over
the Internet.
Curt Scholz, 45, of Cedar
Grove was charged in a state grand jury indictment
with second-degree distribution of child pornography
and fourth-degree possession of child pornography.
The indictment, which was returned on June

alleges that Scholz distributed child pornography
from his America Online e-mail address in
January 2008.
A search warrant executed
on March 28, 2008 by the New Jersey State

on Scholz’s computer. A forensic examination
of Scholz’s computer revealed numerous
images of child pornography. Scholz was arrested
on March 28, 2008 on charges of distribution
of child pornography and possession of child
pornography.
The Digital Technology Investigation
Unit of the New Jersey State Police coordinated
the investigation. Deputy Attorney General
Lee Schaer presented the case to the state
grand jury for the Division of Criminal Justice
Major Crimes Bureau.
Second-degree crimes carry
a maximum sentence of 10 years in state prison
and a fine of $150,000 while fourth-degree
crimes carry a maximum sentence of 18 months
in prison and a fine of $10,000. The indictment
is merely an accusation and the defendant
is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
