TRENTON
- Attorney General Anne Milgram and Criminal
Justice Director Deborah L. Gramiccioni announced
that a Middlesex County man was sentenced
to prison today for distributing child pornography
over the Internet.
According
to Director Gramiccioni, Marc K. Panchenko,
38, of South River, was sentenced to three
years in state prison by Superior Court Judge
Frederick P. DeVesa in Middlesex County. The
sentence is to run concurrent to a term that
Panchenko is already serving in federal prison
on an unrelated matter. Panchenko pleaded
guilty on June 11, 2009 to one count of distribution
of child pornography and one count of possession
of child pornography. The charges were contained
in a Jan. 17, 2008 state grand jury indictment.
An
investigation by the New Jersey State Police
Digital Technology Investigation Unit determined
that between June 13, 2006 and December 5,
2006, Panchenko downloaded images depicting
a child engaging in a prohibited sexual act
from the Internet and distributed this child
pornography to others on the Internet as payment
for items traded online.
The
investigation stemmed from an unrelated investigation
by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
in Portland, Oregon, which uncovered the alleged
child pornography. ICE referred the case to
the New Jersey State Police for further investigation.
The
Digital Technology Investigation Unit of the
New Jersey State Police coordinated the investigation.
Deputy Attorney General Mark Murtha prosecuted
the case and handled today’s sentencing
for the Division of Criminal Justice Computer
Crimes Unit.
