TRENTON
– Attorney General Paula T. Dow and
Criminal Justice Director Stephen J. Taylor
announced that a Mercer County man was sentenced
to state prison today for distributing child
pornography via the Internet.
Randy E. Moretz, 30, of
Ewing, was sentenced to three years in state
prison by Superior Court Judge Frederick
P. DeVesa in Middlesex County. The sentence
was based on Moretz’s guilty plea
to distribution of child pornography before
Superior Court Judge Frederick P. DeVesa
in Middlesex County. The charge was contained
in an Oct. 31, 2008 state grand jury indictment.
In pleading guilty on Nov.
17, Moretz, who lived in Cranbury at the
time of the crime, admitted that on March
2, 2008, he sent an e-mail from his AOL
account, containing an image of child pornography
to another user on the Internet. AOL detected
the child pornography, closed Moretz’s
account and referred the matter to the National
Center for Missing and Exploited Children,
which referred the matter to the New Jersey
State Police Internet Crimes Against Children
Task Force. Moretz was arrested by the Internet
Crimes Against Children Task Force on Sept.
12, 2008.
Members of the New Jersey State Police and
Deputy Attorney General Kenneth Sharpe coordinated
the investigation. Sharpe prosecuted the
case and represented the Division of Criminal
Justice at the sentencing.
