TRENTON
– Attorney General Paula T. Dow and
Criminal Justice Director Stephen J. Taylor
announced that the man charged with leading
the Nine Trey Headbustas set of the Bloods
from New Jersey State Prison has pleaded
guilty to leading a narcotics trafficking
network in Camden.
According
to Director Taylor, Michael Anderson, 38,
pleaded guilty late Friday (Oct. 29) to
a first-degree charge of leading a narcotics
trafficking network before Superior Court
Judge Samuel D. Natal in Camden County.
Under the plea agreement, the state will
recommend that he be sentenced to 20 years
in state prison, including 10 years without
possibility of parole.
Judge
Natal scheduled sentencing for Jan. 14.
Deputy Attorney General Jill S. Mayer prosecuted
the case and took the plea for the Division
of Criminal Justice Gangs & Organized
Crime Bureau.
Anderson
and 14 other gang members were indicted
by a state grand jury on July 8, 2008 as
a result of a joint investigation conducted
by the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice
and the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking
Area (HIDTA) Joint Camden Task Force.
“This
guilty plea will ensure that Anderson remains
in prison for a long time,” said Attorney
General Dow. “It sends a strong message
that gang leaders like Anderson who continue
to direct criminal activities from prison
will be caught and will pay for their crimes.”
“We
have now taken guilty pleas from all 15
defendants who were indicted in this case,”
said Director Taylor. “Through this
cooperative investigation, we effectively
targeted the command structure of the Nine
Trey Headbustas, who used violence to control
their drug-dealing turf in the Broadway
Avenue business district in Camden.”
The
Nine Trey Headbustas set, which has direct
ties to Philadelphia, was dealing large
quantities of heroin on Broadway Avenue,
and on Stevens and Benson Streets in Camden.
Anderson holds the title of “Original
Original Gangster (OOG)” or “Godfather”
of this faction of the Bloods. The state’s
investigation revealed that he exercised
leadership authority from prison.
Attorney
General Dow credited Sgt. Richard M. Carlin,
