TRENTON
– Attorney General Paula T. Dow and
Criminal Justice Director Stephen J. Taylor
announced that the leader of the Nine Trey
Headbustas set of the Bloods was sentenced
today to 20 years in state prison for directing
a narcotics trafficking network in Camden
while incarcerated in New Jersey State Prison.
According
to Director Taylor, Michael Anderson, 38,
was sentenced to 20 years in state prison,
including 10 years without possibility of
parole, by Superior Court Judge Samuel D.
Natal in Camden County. Anderson pleaded
guilty on Oct. 29, 2010 to a first-degree
charge of leading a narcotics trafficking
network.
Deputy
Attorney General Jill S. Mayer prosecuted
the case and took the plea for the Division
of Criminal Justice Gangs & Organized
Crime Bureau.
Anderson
and 14 other gang members were indicted
by a state grand jury on July 8, 2008 as
a result of Operation Broadway, a joint
investigation conducted by the New Jersey
Division of Criminal Justice and the High-Intensity
Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Joint Camden
Task Force. A total of 18 defendants have
pleaded guilty in the investigation, including
all defendants named in the indictment and
three additional defendants who pleaded
guilty to accusations.
“Through
our multi-agency investigation, we have
ensured that Anderson will remain in prison
for many years,” said Attorney General
Dow. “We have sent a clear message
that we will not allow gang leaders like
Anderson to continue to inflict crime and
violence on our communities from behind
bars.”
“The
Nine Trey Headbustas brought drugs and violence
to the Broadway Avenue business district
of Camden,” said Director Taylor.
“As a result of Operation Broadway,
we have convicted 18 members of this gang,
including its top leaders.”
The
Nine Trey Headbustas set, which has direct
ties to Philadelphia, was dealing large
quantities of heroin on Broadway Avenue,
and on Stevens and Benson Streets in Camden.
Anderson holds the title of “Original
Original Gangster (OOG)” or “Godfather”
of this faction of the Bloods. The state’s
investigation revealed that he exercised
leadership authority over the gang from
New Jersey State Prison in Trenton.
