TRENTON
- Attorney General Paula T. Dow and Division
of Criminal Justice Director Stephen J.
Taylor announced that a Bergen County chiropractor
was sentenced today for fraudulently obtaining
claims money from insurance companies.
According
to Acting Insurance Fraud Prosecutor John
Kennedy, Kyung P. Yu, (also known as William
Yu), 45 (DOB 4/2/65), of Closter, was sentenced
to three years probation conditioned on
30 days in county jail by Superior Court
Judge Patrick J. Roma in Bergen County.
Yu’s sentence was based on his Feb.
15 guilty plea to an accusation which charged
him with third-degree theft by deception.
In
pleading guilty, Yu, a chiropractor and
the owner of North Jersey Rehabilitation
Center, PC, located in Englewood Cliffs,
admitted that between March 14, 2007 and
Jan. 22, 2010, he obtained $1,285.77 from
Travelers Insurance Company, Liberty Mutual
Insurance Company and American International
Group, Inc. (AIG), by submitting fraudulent
claims which created the false impression
that medical services or treatments were
performed. The medical services or treatments
were, in fact, not performed and therefore,
Yu was not entitled to any reimbursement
from the insurance companies.
Detective Thomas Ference, Civil Investigator
Julia Ferriera and Deputy Attorney General
Cheryl A. Maccaroni were assigned to the
investigation. Maccaroni prosecuted the
case and represented the state at the sentencing.
Acting Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Kennedy
thanked Travelers, AIG and Liberty Mutual
for their assistance in the investigation.
