ATLANTIC
CITY – Tropicana Casino & Resort
has agreed to a civil monetary penalty in
the amount of $15,000 in a ruling recently
published by the New Jersey Division of
Gaming Enforcement. The penalty was part
of a settlement agreement between the Division
and Tropicana, which allowed a person on
the exclusion list to gamble without ejecting
him as required.
“Maintaining
integrity within this industry is paramount.
We have strict regulations in place to prevent
individuals on the exclusion list from gambling
in Atlantic City,” said Acting Director
David Rebuck. “I commend Deputy Attorney
General R. Lane Stebbins and Investigator
George Homa, who uncovered the violations
and worked with Tropicana to resolve the
charges.”
The
Casino Control Act (N.J.S.A. 5:12-71) provides
for the establishment of a list of persons
who are to be excluded or ejected from any
licensed casino in New Jersey, such as career
or professional offenders, cheats or criminal
offenders. As detailed in the complaint
filed by the Division, an excluded person
who is named in the complaint was present
within Tropicana's licensed premises and
engaged in illegal conduct, specifically
cheating at the game of craps.
Money
that is received by the State as part of
settlement agreements is directed to the
Casino Revenue Fund, which supports compulsive
gambling treatment and education programs
and programs that benefit the State’s
senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
